Day 3: Off to Sydney, Australia! (Sunday May 14th)

I'm heading to Sydney today! Although I wish I had another day or two (or three or more...) to explore Melbourne, I'm also excited to be on my way. I definitely have the itch to get to south east Asia, my main event!

I woke up early, around 6:30 to shower, pack, and head to the airport for my 11:00am flight. I caught the bus and got to the airport early, with time to get a tea and relax, while looking up things to do in Sydney.

But it's supposed to be nice and sunny today and tomorrow with rain on Tuesday. I was thinking of going to the blue mountains tomorrow, but my knee hurts and I'm tired. So I might hold on that for now. There's plenty to see and do in Sydney itself, including a lot of walks.

I tend to feel like I have to do everything always and all at once. Which causes me to be exhausted and burnout. I have to remind myself that this is a two month trip - it's a marathon, not a sprint.

But I feel like I'm in a rush to get there, get into a routine, figure out what I want to do next, etc. So I need to take a step back, give myself grace, time, and space to adapt. It's been a crazy five weeks and this is another big change. New countries, languages, food, time zones, etc. So while I'm in Australia, I don't want to be worrying about waking up early, having a morning routine, working out, etc. I just want to focus on listening to my body and what it needs. With my first main goal to be to rest and get to the point where I'm sleeping through the night. I've been waking up at 3am everyday, fairly awake. Thankfully, I've been able to fall asleep every time. But it still has not been the best quality sleep, and I'm feeling it.

So today, once I landed in Sydney I took public transport to my hostel. I arrived around 1pm, which was too early to check in. So I dropped off my luggage and ventured off to find a spot to eat nearby. The guy at the hostel recommended Fish Bowl - which is like a poke bowl - because they had a $10 lunch deal for it being their one year anniversary. I would highly recommend! It was delicious.

Afterwards, I ventured back to the hostel to check in and take a nap. I was absolutely exhausted. I don't know if I slept per say, but it was nice to lay down and relax. I got up around 4 and went out to explore Paddy's Market and China Town and got groceries for breakfast and dinner on my way back.

I made ramen for dinner and was more than ready for bed. Except it was only 7:30. But I figured I'd go lay down and try to wait to fall asleep until 9. I made it to about 8:30, but all of my roommates had the same idea. We were all in bed by 8:30.

It wasn't long before someone was snoring... I'm glad I brought ear plugs and an eye mask.
